You may wish to go get a drink, as due to the infamous Genre Shift, there are effectively three casts — the original cast of. Medaka Box Zenkichi x Medaka Medaka Box, Anime Ships, Anime Couples, .. she wasn't expecting to have to do more than give advice and maybe rescue.
At age two, Zenkichi wore a yellow lined, orange hoodie with green shorts. When he was a middle school student, Zenkichi wore the uniform of Hakobune Middle School. For a time, he also had his hair dyed brown and slicked back, before Medaka convinced him to change it back. History Zenkichi gives Medaka her purpose. Zenkichi first met Medaka when they were both two years old. Left inside the Hakoniwa General Hospital nursery while his mother worked, Zenkichi was struggling with a toy puzzle.
Medaka, trying to hide from the hospital staff, introduced herself by taking the toy away from him and easily solving it herself. An impressed Zenkichi asked her to solve the rest of the puzzles in the room, which she accomplished without trouble, much to Zenkichi's delight. Medaka brushed him off, insisting that life has no meaning.
When Zenkichi refuted her, she asked him to tell her then for what reason she was born. He then pointed out how happy she had made him, and told her she was obviously born to bring happiness to the people around her.
Medaka took these kind words to heart, and the two of them became friends from that point onwards. Hitomi tried to talk Medaka out of the "hostage" situation, but Medaka held her off with the promise of violence, while Zenkichi looked on in confusion. For half a day, Medaka and Zenkichi played, but Zenkichi soon fell ill to high fever from exhaustion. At his bedside, Medaka tearfully apologized for forcing Zenkichi to go beyond his limits; even though she felt that their friendship was fate, still no one could keep up with her.
Zenkichi took her hands and told her to stop crying. With a cheery smile, Zenkichi promised to catch up to Medaka even if they became separated or lost.
After meeting Medaka, Zenkichi never held a grudge against his father. However, he resolved that he would never run away from extraordinary people, or his own mediocrity. In primary school, Medaka took the first kiss of all her classmates, but when she and Zenkichi got to elementary school, he had her stop. The group ganged up on Akune, but their efforts were cut short by Medaka, who kicked Zenkichi away, and admonished him for trying to bully someone weaker than him, as well as telling him to switch back to his old hair-style.
Medaka told him she wanted to learn what one plus one is. Zenkichi first met Hansode Shiranui at Hakoniwa Academy, when she dropped her eraser in front of him. Zenkichi was astonished by her gluttony, comparing her to Medaka.
She then dropped her eraser while having a rice ball. Shiranui first dropped her rice ball in surprise, then burst out laughing. Telling "Erase Man" he was funny, she introduced herself. Zenkichi is present at Medaka's inauguration ceremony.
The two discuss Medaka's numerous achievements, before Shiranui asks Zenkichi if he plans the join the Student Council. Zenkichi adamantly insists that he won't, only for Medaka to appear behind him and drag him off.
Medaka Box 154: What is Important to me Now
In the Student Council room, Zenkichi complains to Medaka about her treatment of him, only to be shocked when he finds she has been undressing behind him. While he insists she have some shame, Medaka only responds that it's fine because they are childhood friends. She was also so overly trusting that she couldn't see through obvious deception, which gets her captured and brainwashed during the Flask Plan arc.
I Just Want to Have Friends: She needs people in order to be somebody. Without people she is only stats and abilities, very similar to her step-brother Tsurubami, a thing of enormous power, but without purpose, happiness, or orientation. After picking up Unzen's Abnormal ability to calculate trajectories she can launch hundreds of superballs at her opponent.
We don't see her master it to the same level Unzen did, however, though she probably did eventually. She's essentially unbeatable in a fight and never fails at anything important.
When the metafiction comes into play, this starts getting played with a lot. She moved an entire building in her fight against Unzen, stating that as Student Council President it was within her rights to move buildings if she deemed it necessary.
How she sees her relationship with Zenkichi since she proposed to him when they first met, but he rejected her they were two-year-olds, so he didn't take it seriously and forgot the whole thing and she assumes the status never changed.
After the Student Presidential Election she does give him a much more pointed hint. Knight in Sour Armour: She has stated that she doesn't remotely believe in the absurd notion that all humans are inherently goodbut she does like and believe that she can redeem most people.
Her fundamental personality is most similar to Tsurubami of all other characters, except switching introversion for extroversion. Her Fatal Flawbelieve it or not, because as much as she wants to be The Hero and The Paragonshe does it out of a sense of duty because her being The Ace makes her unable to understand a lot of people hence why she's not good with art or music - they're contingent on expression.
She particularly struggles to understand how it feels to grapple with failure, such as leading a remedial course focused entirely on improving handwriting because she can't comprehend the idea of actually not knowing the answers. Hell, she can't befriend anybody unless she beats them in a fight, so she treats her enemies as friends and her allies as more or less appendages best seen with Zenkichi.
Class 13 / Others
This takes a pretty depressing tone once we learn about her goal in life. In the end, however, she gets better by the epilogue. She is prone to dramatic speeches peppered with over-the-top poses some of which come from other serieslike The Ginyu Force.
The End has been shown to have two significant flaws. First, there are abilities she simply should not perfect.
- Maguro Kurokami
- Zenkichi Hitoyoshi
- Medaka Kurokami
It is implied that if she perfected Munakata Kei's bloodlust Abnormality she would simply feel an even greater urge to kill than he does rather than be able to turn it off. Similarly, a Minus that gets stronger often becomes less controllable, such as Emukae's. Second, due to perfecting things without the need to work at them her self expression is atrocious.
Thus, when she plays music she actually ends up quite boring. This makes it impossible for her to copy a Style. Lonely at the Top: During her childhood, she did things so effortlessly that she couldn't make any friends.
Losing a Shoe in the Struggle: Kurokami Phantom is this by default, which requires Medaka to be barefoot, so she's forced to slip off her shoes and stockings in the middle of battle. There's also the time Medaka tried to repeatedly kick Tsurubami in the face and he ends up eating shoe. When she pries herself loose, her shoes pop off and remain stuck in his mouth. Doesn't bother her, much though, as she actually likes fighting with her shoes off.
She even teases him that he must really like shoes to hold onto them like that, and Tsurubami admits he was fascinated with schoolgirls' indoor shoes growing up. She gets a lot of reaction shots that show off her figure as much as possible.
Master of the Mixed Message: Characters find it really difficult to know when Medaka has serious feelings for someone since she will kiss and hug everyone without meaning a thing.
Master of Your Domain: She has the capacity to control her body's functions. This climaxes in turning her body into one big heart after her actual heart stops beating. She briefly wore the costume in an omake and everyone agreed that she cannot pull the look off at all. She's much too arrogant.
She wore the outfit again in the Successor arc while cleaning the clock tower, whereupon she fights Kamome and the outfit undergoes severe Clothing Damage by the time she comes out on top. Called out by Unzen of all people. She disagrees with his premises, but later she admits that she's wrong when called out by Koga regarding Kumagawa.
When she's charged with stopping the moon from crashing down on Earth in a manner that would likely kill her, she finds herself trembling as she waits for her time to act. Iihiko's "echo" comforts her. A Mother to Her Men: It's easier to get her pissed off by attacking those close to her than Medaka herself.
She very nearly sees it as her duty to provide fanservice and behaves accordingly with her exhibitionistic streak. Names to Run Away from Really Fast: And you better run away, or else you'll be caught in the collateral damage zone.
No Badass to His Valet: Zenkichi has known her for so long that her impressive leadership skills, physical and mental prowess, and abnormal powers mean nothing to him.
No Sense of Personal Space: She tends to be all over people. Medaka has never really been able to learn social skills properly and tends to just copy people and fall back on impressing people into following her.
It's telling that Zenkichi seems to be her Only Friend. She puts her hair into this style while conversing with Ajimu in a hot spring. She's the wealthy heiress of the Kurokami family, implied to be the world's most powerful family.
One Hero, Hold the Weaksauce: Abnormals and Minuses tend to be very poorly adjusted people because either they always win or they always lose, especially the stronger ones. Thanks to the influence of Zenkichi, however, she can at least act like a passably normal person, if eccentric. Also, unlike almost all of the other characters, her abilities are completely controlled.
During these times Medaka seems to be viewed less like a person and more like an idol by the cast. Medaka goal in life to make sure her fellow students do not have any problems but encourages them to work towards their own goals and dreams. For example, she grows irritated with Akune early on when he does someone's task for them instead of showing them how to do it.
Ajimu believes that it would be futile to directly take her on for this reasondespite being an omnipotent being who could shut off Medaka's "The End".
Medaka insists that she's being overestimated. The End, her Abnormality, allows her to instantly gain any skill or ability that she comes into contact with and then master them.
Later on, she doesn't even need to see the skill in action as long as she just hears how it works. You won't be caught up in a murder. You won't be spared by the whim of your enemy. You won't coincidentally meet your friends on vacation. You won't become acquainted with the younger sister of your enemy.
You won't fight from weakest to strongest in a tournament. When all is lost, you won't come up with a strategy that turns the tables. Medaka gets two of these; one by Zenkichi when she's going berserk after being brainwashed, and the whole Student Council when she's about to kill Unzen.
Comes up in chapteralong with bits of Artistic License - Biology. Not only is the CPR unable to revive Kumagawa, but the fact that Kikaijima even considered performing CPR on a person with a crushed throat is baffling. This is given a Lampshade Hanging by Munakata. Crazy Enough to Work: How Zenkichi beats Iihiko in the end. Since all Iihiko's attack are permanent and because they are locked in a battle consisting of One-Hit Kill attacks, it's crucial to dodge all of Iihiko's attacks.
Getting hit on purpose in that scenario would be the most stupid thing to do, therefore it paradoxically enough works because of Zenkichi's newly acquired Contradictory Conjunction Style. Zenkichi shows signs of this in his fight with Munekata, by consistently being able to disarm the latter and learning how to disassemble pistols and a rocket launcher on the off chance he met someone who used one. Kujira planned for 40 different styles of battle she wound up fighting in a C freezer, but her specially-made unitard was good for or C; in addition she stocked up on "normalizing" serum.
Creepy Children Anyone in Class Minus The yin-yang duo guarding the door to the Flask Plan's lab. Also applies to Namanie Nienami.

Anyone and everyone vs Iihiko "Fresh! He is a "hero", after all. Kujira Kurokami feels this way about herself, as she believes that genius cannot thrive without severe hardship. Hinokage Kuudou is known as "Mr. Unknown", as his abnormality means people neither see or remember him as while he's huge and friendly, he's also so intimidating that most people want to forget his very existence. Medaka, by learning and mastering skills, caused anyone who saw her do so to lose hope of ever becoming great in their field and falling into despair.
This means that practically any teacher she's had has pretty much given up and retired just from watching her progress. Were it not for Hinokage Kuudou's "Unknown Hero" talent, he'd probably cause this effect in people just from being seen. He is essentially so manly that anyone who sees him cannot help but feel completely inferior to him in comparison.
Has Femme Fatalonsa dark-colored nurse's outfit, and refers to her level as a "palace of pain". Happens a couple of times. Kujira does it by faking a touching reunion, when she's told of her past by Maguro.
After tearfully running into his open arms she immediately stabs him with a syringe full of " Normalize Serum ". It also happens to Medaka after she has defeated Iihiko. Just as she's about to fall from the exhaustion she gets caught and hugged by Shiranui, who then stabs her clawed hand through her gut as she reveals that she is Iihiko. Deal with the Devil: In chapterZenkichi joins the Flask Plan. Medaka delivers one to Unzen in episode 11 after he tried to kill the student council members.
It spooked him enough to unconsciously flinch. By the time the Thirteen Party Arc ends, there are people dying. However, the deaths are quickly undone.
